High Phenolic EVOO in demand

There is a strong trend towards High Phenolic EVOO developing in the global olive oil industry. It all began with the EU helath claim labeling regulation 432/2012, and the discovery of the NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) method of measuring each phenolic compound individually by Dr. Magiatis and his team of researchers at the Univ. of Athens in 2012.

Since then the research has increased many fold aided by the NMR’s ability to accurately measure each phenolic compound and determine the specific affect for each one or in combination.

According to Manjunath Reddy, a lead analyst at Technavio for food research, “The market is growing steadily because of an increase in demand and consumption of nutritional products worldwide. An increase in consumer awareness and health consciousness is leading to a rise in demand for healthy edible oils. Emerging countries such as China and India are slowly moving toward healthy vegetable oils because of improving economic conditions.”
